Plus Becomes the New Norm for Online Music Platforms: Goodbye Heart Button!

Spotify announced today that it is consolidating the heart and the “Add to playlist” icons into a single plus button, allowing users to save all songs, albums, playlists, audiobooks, podcasts or episodes to their library with one tap. This makes it easier for users to keep track of what they’re listening to and efficiently add content to their libraries without having to go through different screens.

It’s not difficult to find music you like on Spotify. All the user has to do is search for a certain artist, song, or genre and they will be automatically presented with a list of tracks that match their preferences. Once users have found a track they like, they can save it to their “Liked Songs” list by tapping on the plus icon located on the right-hand side in the “Now Playing View.” This way, users can easily access any music they’ve liked in the past without having to go through every playlist they’ve made preference payments for.

The new Spotify icon features a colorful background with a three-dimensionally shaped globe in the center. The globe represents Spotify’s global presence, which has expanded to over 190 countries and territories. The icon also has a new look for iOS and Android devices, making it easier to identify on the app’s user interface.

Spotify has long been a popular music streaming platform and is available on many platforms, including desktop and mobile. The site offers a great selection

Hearts are more universally recognized symbols than stars and may be easier for some users to get used to. With that said, the star-shaped favorite/like button is still widely used on most popular apps.

Being able to add a song to multiple playlists at once is something that has been sought after by many Spotify users for quite some time. The new plus button allows users to do just that, making it easier for them to save the song for later. Tests have shown that the feature results in more listens of the favorited track, which could be something that appeals to users on a personal level.

Spotify has been trying to improve the user experience with new features such as DJ, which gives users a curated selection of music alongside AI-powered spoken commentary about their favorite songs and artists. However, some users are not happy with how the new feature works and are calling for it to be scrapped altogether.

Spotify’s new “Exclude from your Taste Profile” feature lets users dictate which playlists are excluded from their personalized recommendations, allowing them to control what they hear. The feature is a little controversial, as some users feel that it strips away their choice of music and denies them access to great new artists. Others find that excluding certain playlists gives them more control over what they listen to and eliminates the constant noshing on other people’s music choices. It will be interesting to see how this feature affects user behaviour on the platform, as well as artist traffic and engagement overall.

The new Home experience launched over the summer makes it easier to find shows and music separately. The new layout separates out music, podcasts, and shows into their own feeds which makes it easier to find what you want.
