Like many immigrants, the New York City skyline was one of the first sights young brothers Edi and Etrit Demaj took in when they arrived in the U.S. over 20 years ago. “The first building that we saw was the Empire State Building,” Etrit recalls. The Demaj family soon settled in Detroit, where the brothers completed their education and started various companies, including their latest, Kode Labs, which integrates and automates various systems in commercial buildings — including the Empire State Building. When the Demaj brothers founded Kode in 2017, they sought to bring building management into the cloud era. The brothers liken it to an OS that integrates building systems like a computer OS integrates various circuit boards.

Light therapy lamps have become increasingly popular as a result. These products rely on the visible light spectrum, in a bid to mimic the sun’s impact for those of us who spend more of our waking hours in front of a computer than we care to mention. More recently, use of the “near-infrared” (NIR) segment of the light spectrum has been growing in popularity as a potential alternative to visible light. As the name implies, the segment sits between infrared and visible light, at around 600 and 1000 nanometers. That said, it’s probably still safe to suggest that the jury is still out on a lot of this stuff.

It also objected to Google limiting or refusing to allow interoperability of services included in GAS with third-party services. “We are particularly concerned about the compulsory bundling of services with great market strength and reach with services that are less strong. “Google is also prepared to eliminate its contractual provisions on setting Google services as default applications or displaying them prominently in the infotainment platform,” the FCO also noted. The question of whether Google’s proposals will result in an unbundled offering of Google’s services in the automotive sector will be decisive in this context,” it added. Which may give the FCO reason enough to continue its scrutiny of Google Maps in the meanwhile.
