Still, Yahoo has more AI plans in the works, including for its Yahoo News property on the web. However, while the Yahoo News app is taking learnings from Artifact when it comes to offering AI features, the AI summaries feature found on its Yahoo News is not related to its acquisition of the well-liked AI news app that had been created by Instagram’s founders, but had shut down after failing to reach a wider audience. That would explain why most visitors to the Yahoo News website would not have likely encountered these AI summaries as of yet. The code doesn’t reveal much about the underlying technology Yahoo is using for the AI summaries, only how they would appear to site visitors — in a lightbox, a type of web component used for displaying content. Combined with the Artifact-inspired revamp of Yahoo News and the AI features that arrived on Yahoo Mail, it’s clear that Yahoo is betting on AI to give its older web products and services a push.

Revolutionizing Metal Part Production: Magnus Metal’s Plan to Modernize 4,000-Year-Old Methods

Humans have cast metal parts in basically the same way for thousands of years: by pouring molten metal into a mold, often made of compacted sand and clay. To make those parts, Magnus Metals borrows elements of sand casting and 3D printing to perform what it calls digital casting. Magnus Metals plans to sell its machines to customers as well as the proprietary ceramic that’s used to produce the bases. And unlike 3D printing, which usually requires specific feedstocks, Magnus Metals said its system can use customer specified materials. The method doesn’t require expensive tooling to create the bases, unlike molds for sand casting, according to the Magnus Metals.

“Firefox’s Android Browser Expands with Over 450 New Extensions, Three Years After its Transformation”

Firefox Android
Firefox maker Mozilla announced today the launch of over 450 new extensions — aka browser add-ons — which are now available on Mozilla’s Firefox Browser Add-ons page. While Firefox’s nightly builds later enabled more extensions, the publicly available Firefox for Android browser did not have access to these hundreds of extensions, meaning most of Firefox’s mainstream users were also without. It then began to test and make hundreds more extensions available to Firefox for Android users, culminating in today’s news that there are now 450+ extensions available. Safari, Samsung’s browser, Opera, and others are also ahead of Firefox in the mobile browser race. With extensions, you’re free to change the way Firefox for Android looks and behaves.
