It’s Phone Season: OnePlus Reveals Its Latest Flagship
With Samsung’s Galaxy S24 and other highly-anticipated devices soon to be unveiled, phone season is certainly in full swing. However, today we turn our attention to Oppo-owned OnePlus, as they unveil their latest flagship – the OnePlus 12.
Breaking from their previous trend of holding out on the latest processors, OnePlus has stepped up their game with a flagship sporting the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, introduced by Qualcomm last year. But their advancements don’t stop there.
The OnePlus 12 boasts the “Trinity Engine,” a buzzword-heavy term coined by OnePlus themselves, that promises to intelligently unlock the full potential of smartphone hardware. And while the technical jargon may make your eyes glaze over, there are a few key performance points to note. The device is equipped with the aforementioned system-on-a-chip and either 12 or 16GB of RAM, with storage options of 256 or 512GB. The battery is a whopping 5,400mAh, and with the included 80W charger, can be charged from zero to full in just 30 minutes. Wireless charging is also available, though it takes about twice as long.
On the camera front, the OnePlus 12 holds its own with a triple-camera system. A 50-megapixel wide angle, complete with optical image stabilization, sits alongside a 48-megapixel ultra-wide and 65-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom. While zoom capabilities reach up to 120x, noise may start to appear in photos after 6x zoom.
But OnePlus isn’t stopping at just hardware upgrades. They’re also introducing a new HDR algorithm that can intelligently adjust lighting and shadows, thanks to AI-based image recognition technology. Additionally, the “Master Mode” feature has been expanded, offering more options for customizing contrast, saturation, sharpness, and tint. And for all the portrait-lovers out there, OnePlus is promising a more “authentic” portrait mode powered by Hassleblad algorithms.
And what about the design? OnePlus certainly gets points for that as well. Drawing inspiration from luxury watches, the “Emerald Flow” design is sleek and visually appealing. And with Hassleblad’s expertise in camera technology, the bump on the back of the device is sure to produce stunning photos.
For those eager to get their hands on the OnePlus 12, pre-orders open today with the device officially going on sale on February 6. As expected with flagship phones, the pricing falls on the steeper side, starting at $1,070 for the 12GB/256GB model and $1,200 for the 16GB/512GB upgrade. But fear not – OnePlus has also introduced the more budget-friendly OnePlus 12R, starting at just $500, making it less than half the price of the flagship model.
Phone season has come and gone, but OnePlus is making sure to end it with a bang.
