The EU’s latest concerns about TikTok’s DSA compliance center on the launch of TikTok Lite. TikTok has been given 24 hours to provide the risk assessment for TikTok Lite. It’s not clear whether TikTok conducted a DSA risk assessment for the new reward program ahead of launching TikTok Lite in the two EU markets. But the regulation’s focus on systemic risk essentially makes such a step obligatory for features that are likely to appeal to minors. TikTok did tell us it requires TikTok Lite users to verify that they are 18 or older in order to collect points through their use of the app.

“Nabla Secures Additional $24M Funding for Revolutionary AI Tool Supporting Physicians”

Nabla Office
Nabla has been working on an AI copilot for doctors and other medical staff. Nabla then uses a large language model refined with medical data and health-related conversations to identify the important data points in the consultation — medical vitals, drug names, pathologies, etc. The company uses a combination of an off-the-shelf speech-to-text API from Microsoft Azure and its own speech-to-text model (a refined model based on the open-source Whisper model). Once the LLM has processed the transcript, Nabla de-pseudonymizes the output. However, doctors can give their approval and ask for the patient consent to share medical notes with Nabla so that they can be used to correct transcription errors.

Cruise implements significant job cuts, reducing self-driving car workforce by 24%

An email, penned by newly minted president and CTO Mo Elshenawy, was sent this morning to the entire 3,800-person workforce. Cruise is targeting non-engineering jobs in the layoffs, particularly those people who worked in the field, commercial operations and corporate staffing, according to the email. Engineering, a category that makes up the bulk of the Cruise workforce, is largely being preserved, according to the content of the email and discussions with internal sources. The layoffs have been largely expected at Cruise for weeks now. GM and the Cruise board have been scrambling ever since the October 2 incident put the company in the crosshairs of state, local and federal agencies.
