You could spend it training a generative AI model. See Databricks’ DBRX, a new generative AI model announced today akin to OpenAI’s GPT series and Google’s Gemini. Customers can privately host DBRX using Databricks’ Model Serving offering, Rao suggested, or they can work with Databricks to deploy DBRX on the hardware of their choosing. It’s an easy way for customers to get started with the Databricks Mosaic AI generative AI tools. And plenty of generative AI models come closer to the commonly understood definition of open source than DBRX.

Mentoring Tomorrow’s Founders: Rediscovering a Traditional American Dream Through Discipulus Ventures

Scores of accelerator programs run every year with the aim of identifying and cultivating founders in the earliest stages of building a company. Only a fraction seek out founders who are explicitly aligned with some set of values — let alone classically conservative values like family, patriotism and faith. Discipulus Ventures, which kicked off its first 10-person cohort yesterday, is a singular exception. “You can’t say what matters, you can’t say what you think is true, and that’s obviously not going to be good if you want to solve these problems,” he said. The city’s reputation has grown in recent months as a breeding ground for a new type of hard tech founder, one very much like the type Discipulus is trying to attract.

Resignation of Stability AI CEO due to inability to outmatch centralized AI with further centralization

Stability AI founder and chief executive Emad Mostaque has stepped down from the top role and the unicorn startup‘s board, the buzzy firm said Friday night, making it the second hot AI startup to go through major changes this week. Stability AI, which has lost more than half a dozen key talent in recent quarters, said Mostaque is stepping down to pursue decentralized AI. In a series of posts on X, Mostaque opined that one can’t beat “centralized AI” with more “centralized AI,” referring to the ownership structure of top AI startups such as OpenAI and Anthropic. “We should have more transparent & distributed governance in AI as it becomes more and more important. “The payoffs on proper generative AI R&D are clearer and faster to market than just about anything we’ve seen.

Annoying Issue: Android Users Unable to Identify Songs with Gemini

Google Bard Gemini V1
On Android, Gemini also breaks Google Assistant’s song recognition. So imagine my frustration when I discovered that Gemini on Android can’t recognize songs — or even perform the basic task of funneling song ID requests to Google Assistant. Or, were I using a conventional home screen, I could place the dedicated song ID shortcut. Perhaps it’s sophisticated in other ways — ways I haven’t discovered yet, frankly. Full transparency, I’ve reached out to Google about song recognition via Gemini and I’ll update this post if I hear back.

Grok: The AI Plushie That Stole Elon Musk’s Thunder, Featuring the Voice of Grimes

Grok What S In The Box
Grimes is stepping into the toy business with “Grok,” a character that she voiced for Curio’s new line of screen-free AI plushies. The toy is not affiliated with the AI chatbot backed by Grimes’ ex, Elon Musk, which is also named Grok. There’s Grok, an anthropomorphized rocket ship voiced by Grimes. As Business Insider reports, Grimes’ Grok was trademarked first. “I can’t believe even ai can’t avoid showing up at school and meeting another kid with the same name haha.”
