“Why You Should Consider Using an Ad Blocker: The Hidden Dangers of Government Spyware”

Data Flowing Through Phone
Government spyware is another reason to use an ad blockerAd blockers might seem like an unlikely defense in the fight against spyware, but new reporting casts fresh light on how spyware makers are weaponizing online ads to allow governments to conduct surveillance. Spyware makers are reportedly capable of locating and stealthily infecting specific targets with spyware using banner ads. One of the startups that worked on an ad-based spyware infection system is Intellexa, a European company that develops the Predator spyware. Ad blockers don’t just hide the ads, but rather block the underlying website from loading the ads to begin with. In 2022, the FBI said in a public service announcement to use an ad blocker as an online safety precaution.

With the Apple Car firmly in the rearview, the company is reportedly exploring yet another notoriously difficult path: home robots. In spite of those efforts, however, the company has fared best when it focused its resources back into its robot vacuum. The hockey puck design that’s prevalent across robot vacuums isn’t ideal for anything beyond the core functionality it’s built for. That’s likely a big part of the reason the company is selling it as a development platform. There’s nothing wrong with teleop in many scenarios, but it seems unlikely that people are going to flock to a home robot that’s being controlled by a human somewhere far away.

Developers with more than two years of experience in crypto are at an all-time high after reaching 51% annualized growth over the past five years, according to the report. And developers who have been in crypto for at least one year grew 15% year-over-year and comprise 63% of all monthly active developers. When you see devs stick around decorrelated from prices, there’s something fundamentally here that keeps them in the space.”The number of developers working in crypto has matched what Shen has experienced since entering the space in 2018. “Newcomers are very correlated with prices,” Shen said.
