TikTok, the popular video-sharing platform, is constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity with its unique features. And now, it is testing a new feature that is sure to rock the music world – AI Song.
As confirmed by the company to TechCrunch, AI Song is an experimental feature that uses AI to generate original songs based on prompts entered by users. Currently, only a select few users have access to this feature, which is meant to be a fun tool rather than a platform for creating the next viral hit.
The lyrics for AI Song are generated using Bloom, an advanced language model, and are then paired with music from a pre-saved TikTok catalogue.
TikTok user Jonah Manzano shared a video walkthrough of the feature, giving us a glimpse of how it works. According to the video, AI Song first asks users to enter a prompt for the song. You can either choose from suggested prompts such as “Going to concerts,” “A new beginning,” and “Cuddling with pets,” or enter your own. Once a prompt is entered, the app starts generating the song.
After a few seconds, the lyrics are ready and are paired with music. Users can change the genre of the song by switching between “pop,” “EDM,” and “Hiphop.” The end result is a unique song with lyrics based on the entered prompt.

AI Song is an experimental feature available on TikTok, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to generate songs based on prompts you input. How does AI Song work? The lyric generation in AI Song is driven by Bloom, a robust language model employing machine learning to produce text. It’s important to note that lyrics generated by this model might include errors, and the same lyrics may be generated for multiple users utilizing the feature. The app reminds users that there are guidelines to follow while using AI Song. These include not exploiting or harming minors, spreading false or personal information, or defaming, impersonating, or harassing others. These rules are in place to ensure a safe and positive experience for all users.
Like any other test feature, it is uncertain when or if AI Song will be available to all TikTok users. The company has also hinted that the name of the feature might be changed in the future.
However, TikTok is not the only platform offering tools for creating music in short-form videos. A few months ago, YouTube launched the “Dream Track” feature that allows creators to build 30-second AI-generated soundtracks. These soundtracks can be created in the voices of popular artists such as Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, Troye Sivan, and Papoose.
It’s worth noting that while AI Song is not intended for the music industry, TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has already launched a free-to-use music production app in the United States last year. This app, called Ripple, allows musicians to easily create and edit audio on their mobile devices using machine learning technology. The app’s library includes music licensed to or owned by ByteDance.
The introduction of AI Song only reinforces TikTok’s deepening involvement in the music world. In fact, the company launched a subscription-based music streaming service called “TikTok Music” in some countries last year, hoping to compete with established players like Spotify and Apple Music. While there is no news about when it will roll out in the United States, it has been over a year since ByteDance filed for a trademark for the service, so we can expect to see it soon.
