About 16.6 million LoanDepot customers had their “sensitive personal” information stolen in a cyberattack earlier this month. The loan and mortgage giant has described the attack as ransomware. In a filing with federal regulators on Monday, the company announced that it would notify the affected customers of the data breach.
LoanDepot has not disclosed the specific types of sensitive and personal customer data that was taken. When asked, spokesperson Jonathan Fine declined to provide details. However, the loan company has stated on its cyber incident updates page that they have restored some customer portals online. Despite this progress, many of their online services remain inaccessible into their second week.
The company’s CEO, Frank Martell, stated in the filing that they are continuously working on bringing systems back online and restoring normal business operations as quickly as possible.
Customers have reported difficulties with making payments or accessing their online accounts since the attack began on January 8th.
LoanDepot has not yet determined the full impact of the cybersecurity incident on their financial condition.
