First Ocean recall issued for problematic Fisker SUV

Fisker is issuing the first recall for its all-electric Ocean SUV because of problems with the warning lights, according to new information published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall technically only applies to all 6,864 Ocean SUVs in the US, as other regions have their own safety regimes. The recall comes after months of problems with the Ocean SUV, and at a time when Fisker is on the brink of bankruptcy. This recall is not related to any of the four active investigations NHTSA has launched into the Ocean. With those, the agency is probing inadvertent automatic emergency braking, sudden braking loss, vehicle rollaway and doors that won’t open.

Fisker has announced a recall for its all-electric Ocean SUV, the first of its kind. This news was revealed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which published new information about issues with the vehicle’s warning lights.

The NHTSA has reported that the Fisker Ocean’s instrument panel does not display the brake, park, and antilock brake system warning lights in the correct font size and sometimes even in the wrong color. This is a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Furthermore, the agency has stated that “multiple warning lights fail to illuminate during the ignition cycle.”

To resolve this issue, Fisker will provide an over-the-air update and has issued a stop-sale order to its dealership partners until the new software is installed. It is worth noting that this recall only applies to the 6,864 Ocean SUVs in the US, as other regions have their own safety regulations. However, Fisker has also acknowledged the problem and is updating the 4,056 Ocean vehicles in the EU and the 281 SUVs in Canada, according to documents filed with the agency.

This latest recall has occurred after several months of problems with the Ocean SUV, at a time when Fisker is facing severe financial difficulties. The EV startup has stopped production of the Ocean and has reduced its workforce considerably in a bid to manage its predicament.

It should be noted that this recall is unrelated to any of the four active investigations that the NHTSA has launched regarding the Ocean SUV. These investigations involve inadvertent automatic emergency braking, sudden braking loss, vehicle rollaway, and malfunctioning doors.
