“Proposed: $8.5 Billion Allocated by White House to Support Intel’s Onshore Chip Production”

The CHIPS Act can be seen as a direct result of a number of pressing geopolitical issues. The above, coupled with long-standing efforts to revitalize U.S. industry, spurred on economic efforts to reshore manufacturing. While the CHIPS Act was still winding its way through Capitol Hill, Intel announced plans to open a $10 billion manufacturing facility just outside of Columbus, Ohio. It says it expects those efforts will create 20,000 construction and 10,000 manufacturing jobs — music to the ears of an administration keenly focused on monthly jobs reports. Notably, Intel recently pushed back the manufacturing start date of its New Albany, Ohio, plant two years to 2027, citing changes to the business environment.

Rather than grimly assembling data about cancer deaths to predict outcomes in treatment, the founders of Cure51 had another idea. Instead, the company assembles data about long term survivors of cancer, thus hoping to crack the code on what keeps people alive. It’s now raised a €15 million Seed round led by Paris-based Sofinnova Partners. Other investors in this round included: Hitachi Ventures GmbH, Life Extension Ventures, Xavier Niel, and Olivier Pomel, CEO, and co-founder of Datadog. Both had previously worked in five well-known oncology centers, such as the Gustave Roussy Institute in Paris and the Vall d’Hebronin Barcelona.

Ramp CEO: Fintech Startup Primed for Limitless Growth, Says CEO

Techcrunch Disrupt 2022 Day 2
Despite all that growth, Eric Gylman, the co-founder and CEO of Ramp thinks that the industry, and companies like his, are just scratching the surface. Glyman and his current co-founder Karim Atiyeh launched their first fintech startup, Paribus, back in 2014. The company raised a mere $2 million before getting snapped up by Capital One. When the team was building Paribus, the generative AI technology to craft the emails was still relatively rudimentary and the rest of the company’s AI technology was built on very simple language models. The startup has raised more than $1.7 billion from venture capitalists and was last valued at $5.8 billion in August 2023.

“Enhancing User Experience: Truecaller’s Latest AI Update Identifies and Stops Increased Spam Call Activity”

Truecaller Max Spam Blocking
Caller ID app Truecaller today blocks between 38 and 40 billion spam calls annually for its 374 million+ users. The update is Android-only: Apple does not allow Truecaller (or other caller ID services) to check callers’ spammer status to block calls automatically on iOS. But to get the best out of the app, users have to engage and tweak their own lists. This isn’t the first AI feature at Truecaller: it provides an AI assistant that screens calls to identify why the caller has dialled the user. After updating the Truecaller app to v13.58 or later, users can find the new spam-blocking feature by going through Settings > Block.

Nvidia chips give graphics-hungry gamers the tools they needed to play games in higher resolution, with higher quality and higher frame rates. Anyone who had come to the keynote expecting him to pull a Tim Cook, with a slick, audience-focused keynote, was bound to be disappointed. The company also introduced Nvidia NIM, a software platform aimed at simplifying the deployment of AI models. NIM leverages Nvidia’s hardware as a foundation and aims to accelerate companies’ AI initiatives by providing an ecosystem of AI-ready containers. “Anything you can digitize: So long as there is some structure where we can apply some patterns, means we can learn the patterns,” Huang said.

Elon Musk’s xAI released its Grok large language model as “open source” over the weekend. But does releasing the code for something like Grok actually contribute to the AI development community? This isn’t the first time the terms “open” and “open source” have been questioned or abused in the AI world. So where does xAI’s Grok release fall on this spectrum? Is his nascent AI company really dedicated to open source development?

“Streamlined Avatar and 3D Model Creation: Roblox’s Revolutionary AI Upgrades”

Roblox
Roblox is introducing two new AI technologies to reduce the time it takes to create avatars and 3D models, the company announced on Monday. Once a creator select the new feature, Roblox will run a number of tests over an asset and automatically rig, cage, segment and skin 3D models. The second feature is called “Texture Generator,” and enables creators to quickly change the look of 3D objects using plain language text prompts. For example, you can enter a text prompt to create texture for a 3D wooden treasure chest. With Texture Generator, Roblox is enabling creators to do the same thing within 15 to 30 seconds.
