“Apple News Explores a Game Resembling NYT Connections in Newly Launched Feature”

Apple News Ios Icon
Apple News is testing a new game for iOS 17.5 called Quartiles, which requires players to organize a grid of 20 syllables into 5 four-syllable words. Spotted by Gadget Hacks, the interface for Quartiles looks a lot like the New York Times’ newest hit, Connections. Did Apple News sherlock the New York Times? While it may appear odd for a news aggregator to continue investing in games, that’s exactly what has been working for the New York Times. But given that the New York Times is low-key running a gaming studio now, it’s not a bad idea for Apple to churn out some new, preferably square-shaped games.

“Introducing BeScene: The Film Industry’s Networking App with a Tinder Twist”

Bescene
Networking app BeScene launches today to bring filmmakers and other creatives (actors/actresses, animators, cinematographers, costume designers, directors, editors, producers, production assistants, script coordinators, writers and so forth) a Tinder-like experience to help build connections within the entertainment industry. “The simplicity and familiarity allow each user to find what they need quickly and in a way that is meaningful: through real human connections,” Armistead says. Former Tinder executives attempted a similar strategy in 2018 with a networking app called Ripple, which uses the familiar swipe mechanism to match professionals with each other. HUSSLUP, another like-minded networking app for the film biz, also has a swipe feature, however, it’s more aligned with LinkedIn since it provides job search and posting capabilities. While BeScene hasn’t raised any external funding yet, the company gathered $250,000 from friends and family in 2022.

AUX: Spotify’s Latest Service to Connect Brands and Creators – Following in the Footsteps of Meta, YouTube, and More

Spotify Aux
Facebook, Instagram, Snap, YouTube, and other social networking companies offer programs to connect creators with brands, and now Spotify is doing the same. The company announced the launch of AUX, its new in-house “music advisory agency” for brands. While not necessarily a creator marketplace, the program has a similar aim — it will facilitate connections between brands and emerging artists for various campaigns benefitting both parties. For Spotify, AUX represents another source of income, as well, as the company says brands can pay Spotify to leverage the new service. “Spotify is always looking for ways to leverage our music ecosystem to deepen the connections between artists, brands, and fans,” said Jeremy Erlich, VP, Head of Music Content at Spotify, in a statement.

10M Users Achieved: Jagat, the Social Network Emphasizing Physical Connections, Hits Milestone

Jagat App 1
The location-based social network, which launched earlier this year in March, wants to help people focus on real-life connections and make friends. Jagat is somewhat similar to Snap-owned Zenly, a social map app that shut down last year. Your social map is what you see when you open Jagat, as it’s where you see your friends’ locations in real-time. “We want to bring back social in social apps – focusing on social networking and not media,” Beagen said. Around 85% of Jagat users are part of GenZ.
