Apple is opening up web distribution for iOS apps targeting users in the European Union from today.
Apple’s walled garden stance has enabled it to funnel essentially all iOS developer revenue through its own App Store in the past.
An Apple rep described this as a baseline safety and security standard which they said iOS users expect to help ensure their device is protected from external risks.
Given Apple has only just started implementing web distribution for iOS apps it remains to be seen whether the EU will step in for a closer look at this aspect of its DMA compliance too.
It’s also unclear how much demand there will be among iOS developers for direct web distribution.
The total number of monthly active crypto developers fell 25% year-over-year in 2023, but those who have been in the space long-term showed more resilience than before, according to a new developer report by Electric Capital.
Developers with more than two years of experience in crypto are at an all-time high after reaching 51% annualized growth over the past five years, according to the report.
And developers who have been in crypto for at least one year grew 15% year-over-year and comprise 63% of all monthly active developers.

Earlier this year, GitHub rolled out Copilot Chat, a ChatGPT-like programming-centric chatbot, for organizations subscribed to Copilot for Business.
Copilot Chat more recently came to individual Copilot customers — those paying $10 per month — in beta.
“And code complete was just the beginning.”Little else about Copilot Chat has changed since the beta.
Developers can prompt Copilot Chat in natural language to get real-time guidance, for example asking Copilot Chat to explain concepts, detect vulnerabilities or write unit tests.
