Possible rephrasing: Potential Impact of DOJ Lawsuit on Apple Watch

Apple Watch Series 9 Blue
The Apple Watch gets some face time in the filing, as well. The suit rightly notes that the Apple Watch is “only compatible with the iPhone” – a longstanding complaint among Android users interested in picking up what is far and away the market share leader. Apple is not, however, alone in ensuring that certain functionality only operates as stated with first-party hardware, however. The Apple Watch has historically been even more dominant in its respective category than the iPhone in the global market. Should the DOJ’s suit force the company to open Apple Watch functionality, it would not only limit watch-based iPhone sales, it would also potentially open the device up to Android users, which, in turn, could have a positive impact on sales.

The UK itself said it would put up a more modest £35 million ($44 million) in funding for UK efforts over the next few years as part of that. The Chips Joint Undertaking, for example, has an overall budget of about €11 billion from both public and private contributions. In December 2023, Pragmatic Semiconductor, another Cambridge-based chip company, raised $231 million at a $500 million valuation. “We are very happy to welcome the UK to the Chips Joint Undertaking as a participating state,” said Jari Kinaret, Chips JU Executive Director, in a statement.

Moustrap is expected to hit the market in about three months – but don’t expect it to be cheap. Despite the high-end price tag, Federici has chosen to bootstrap the project himself, with no immediate plans for seeking investors. With a manufacturing partner lined up in China, Moustrap is well on its way to finding its way to users.
