Nile secures $11.6M in seed funding to develop a robust data infrastructure for SaaS platforms

Team Photo 3
That’s the driving idea behind Nile, a startup that aims to create this data system with serverless Postgres at its core. This could be authentication, billing, and so on.”Unsurprisingly, that’s exactly the problem Nile tries to solve. The idea here is that every SaaS company has a data layer at its core and since we are talking about SaaS companies, they all have to solve for multi-tenancy in some form or another, no matter whether they are in the B2B or B2C space. Traditionally, the team argued, solving problems around data and database management was always an application problem rather than a database problem. Nile is turning this on its head by making multi-tenancy a core feature of its Postgres solution and by separating the data layer from the compute layer.

“Disney Presents a Sophisticated Answer to VR’s Movement Issue”

Disney Imagineer Makes History Disney Parks
I’ll never forget trying out an early version of the virtual reality treadmill in a hotel suite many E3s ago. The system, which features a concave platform and slippery shoes, was clever enough to influence Ready Player One’s take on the space. HoloTile — which recently made its YouTube debut at the end of a video honoring Disney Research fellow, Larry Smoot – is an extremely clever and honestly quite elegant solution to some of these issues. “I can walk on this omni directional floor in any direction I want,” Smoot says in the video. If it’s going to see the light of day, it seems likely that it will be as part of a Disney Parks VR experience.

“Unveiling Rypplzz: A $3 Million Seed Deck for Your Inspiration”

Pitch Deck Teardown
This week, we’re taking a look at a pitch deck from Rypplzz (pronounced “ripples”), a spatial technology startup that recently raised $3 million. As a rule, a pitch deck should never exceed 20MB because many email servers don’t like big attachments. While this slide explains what the product is and its capabilities, it falls short of being a comprehensive product slide. Enhancing a product slide with these details can elevate the pitch and make it more compelling. In the rest of this teardown, we’ll take a look at three things Rypplzz could have improved or done differently, along with its full pitch deck!

“Mastering the Essentials: Key Strategies for Preventing Catastrophic Product Failure in Your Startup”

Alarm Clock With Bull's Eye
Anyone mad enough to launch a new product already knows the stats surrounding product failure. Make sure you’re solving the right problemThere are ways companies can better understand their customers’ pain points to develop the right products that solve the right problems at the right time. Regarding product design and development, solving the right problem might seem obvious. You build a product or solution to solve that problem, but it doesn’t work out as planned.

X (Twitter) Seems to Be Dealing with a Prevalent Bot Verification Issue

Bots Glitch X Twitter
It looks like X, the company formerly known as Twitter, has a Verified bot problem. It does appear that at least some of the bot accounts are older, according to the “join date” that’s displayed on their X profile. While a few were from real people joking about the bot problem, the majority were AI responses. It appears that the Verified bots are largely X accounts created in the November 24-26, 2023 timeframe. The company admitted last summer it had a Verified spammer problem when it announced new DM settings.

“Pepper Bio: A $6.5M Seed Funding Presentation”

Pepper Bio Pdt
Happy New Year, and welcome to the 78th installment of Pitch Deck Teardown! This week, we are taking a closer look at Pepper Bio‘s seed pitch deck that landed the company $6.5 million. Unlike CancerVax (which I ripped apart in a previous teardown for being completely unbelievable), Pepper Bio has a strong team and a lot of promise. In a world that’s often laden with deeply technical language, Pepper Bio sets itself apart for a moment. In the rest of this teardown, we’ll look at three things Pepper Bio could have improved or done differently, along with its full pitch deck!

Breaking Down HomeCooks’ $3.2M Seed Deck: An Analysis of the Pitch Presentation

Home Cooks Pdt Cover 1
Positioning itself as the “Etsy of food,” HomeCooks has grown rapidly and today serves around 7,000 customers. Quick spoiler alert here: At 25 slides, this deck is way too long, but it’s also one of the best pitch decks I’ve seen in a hot minute. Slides in this deckThe company shared its 25-slide deck in full, without redactions or edits. In this deck, HomeCooks shows that it has figured out how to make this work. In the rest of this teardown, we’ll take a look at three things HomeCooks could have improved or done differently, along with its full pitch deck!

“The Bold Influence of Technologists on Product Innovation”

Product design makes innovation less daunting and increases chances for success because it is a multidisciplinary process with structures and frameworks to catalyze innovation. Before discussing the nontraditional ways technologists participate in product innovation, let’s conceptually examine innovation and product design. A progressive role for technologistsTechnologists play a strategic role in product innovation and should bring a metaphysical perspective in addition to being punctilious. Product innovation is experimental and should not always be expected to yield productive results. Technologists add value to the product design process by sharing their expertise on a technology’s characteristics.

“Enhancing Legal Accessibility: An Interview with Charlie Hernandez from My Pocket Lawyer”

Welcome back to Found, where we get the stories behind the startups. This week Becca and Dom are joined by Charlie Hernandez, the founder and CEO of My Pocket Lawyer, an online platform that is meant to democratize access to legal advice and guidance for those that might not be able to afford a lawyer. “Exploring the World of Robotics: A Conversation with UC Berkeley Professor Ken Goldberg”

Techcrunch Disrupt San Francisco 2018 Day 3
For the next few weeks, TechCrunch’s robotics newsletter Actuator will be running Q&As with some of the top minds in robotics. Large language models like ChatGPT can allow robots and humans to communicate in natural language. Robot “singularities” are a fundamental problem for all robot arms; they are very different from Kurzweil’s hypothetical point in time when AI surpasses humans. Robot singularities are points in space where a robot stops unexpectedly and must be manually reset by a human operator. For repetitive robot motions, singularities can be avoided by tedious manual fine-tuning of repetitive robot motions to adjust them such that they never encounter singularities.
