“Fueling Optimism: Unveiling the Past and Potential of Tomorrow in ‘A Brief History of the Future'”

Brief History Poster
Cynicism is a quality taken almost for granted in tech journalism, and certainly we are as guilty as the next publication. “A Brief History of the Future,” hosted by Ari Wallach, also has the compelling quality of, as a PBS production, being completely free. But now we’re at a point that if we continually do that, we’re going to we’re going to lose the thread. And everyone seems to be relieved to be able to talk about the promise of the future rather than the threat of it. In case you’re wondering what moneyed special interest is trying to placate you with this beneficent presentation of a kindlier, wiser future… don’t worry, I asked.

“Fisker Incurs Financial Miscalculations: Customer Payments Go Unaccounted For Over Several Months”

Fisker Collapse V2
Fisker temporarily lost track of millions of dollars in customer payments as it scaled up deliveries, leading to an internal audit that started in December and took months to complete, TechCrunch has learned. The EV startup was ultimately able to track down a majority of those payments or request new ones from customers whose payment methods had expired. Red flags raisedFisker has warned investors since last year about problems with its internal accounting practices. Fisker’s poor internal procedures have created problems beyond keeping track of payments. Fisker hired contractors in February to help resolve the title and registration problems, but the backlog was immense, according to the people.

Evari’s quest for scientific breakthrough: Rocket science as a solution for heat pump issues

Today, large swaths of the globe haven’t adopted air-source heat pumps because they don’t work as well when the mercury drops. What’s more, the refrigerants most heat pumps use are either potent greenhouse gases or can break down into forever chemicals, researchers have found. Heat pumps are used not just to heat and cool homes and vehicles, but also to generate heat for industrial processes, dehumidify buildings, keep food cold in grocery stores, and more. The Biden administration announced in February that it was devoting $63 million from the Defense Production Act to boost heat pump manufacturing specifically. Now it just has to get its super-fast compressors into production in time to catch the wave of heat pump adoption.

General Motors has resumed sales of the Chevrolet Blazer EV — and at a cheaper price — more than two months after the automaker pulled the vehicle over software problems. The company temporarily halted sales of the Blazer EV in December after early customers reported problems with the SUV’s infotainment screen and charging at DC fast charging stations. GM said in a statement that the company “made significant software updates that will improve features and functionality to deliver on the high expectations of our customers. Existing Blazer EV owners will have to bring their car into a GM dealership for a software update to address any potential problems going forward. The company says it has improved its quality testing and software processes to prevent similar problems in the future.

“Empowering Entrepreneurs: Artemis Fund Secures $36 Million to Support Diverse Innovators Tackling Complex Challenges”

Artemis Gps
The Artemis Fund, which invests in underrepresented founders, closed on its second fund with $36 million in capital commitments. “We really wanted to make sure that our LPs aligned with our long-term goal of backing diverse founders,” Murakhovskaya told TechCrunch. VC investment itself continues to be fairly stagnant in these areas, according to my colleague Dominic-Madori Davis, who crunched the numbers on venture capital funding to these demographics earlier this month. Female founders and co-founders secured more capital overall in 2023 than they did in 2020, according to new Pitchbook research. For Fund II, Artemis intends to continue leading and co-leading investments and will target around 20 new companies.

Some of the trickiest and most foreign are legal because the legal world is unfamiliar and ever changing. What are some of the impactful legal mistakes founders make, what are the implications, and how can they avoid them or mitigate risk? For example, a founder might promise early employees equity in percentages without clarifying what vesting terms apply or what type of stock will be issued. Founders or early employees frequently claim that promises were made orally or by email. Founders or early employees frequently claim that promises were made orally or by email.
