Elon Musk is threatening to ban iPhones from all his companies over the newly announced OpenAI integrations Apple announced at WWDC 2024 on Monday. This allows users to get an answer from ChatGPT without having to open the ChatGPT iOS app. Apple also announced another integration that would allow users have access to ChatGPT system-wide within Writing Tools via a “compose” feature. That’s great news for OpenAI, which will soon have a massive influx of requests from Apple users. Apple users may not understand the nuances of the privacy issues here, of course — which is what Musk is counting on by making these complaints.

“WWDC 2024: Apple TV+ Unveils InSight, a Revolutionary Feature Comparable to Amazon’s X-Ray”

At Apple’s WWDC 2024, the company revealed a handy new feature for Apple TV+ called InSight. Apple TV+’s new feature appears to be similar to Amazon’s X-Ray technology, where Fire TV users get an overview of actor bios and behind-the-scenes information while watching TV shows and movies. To use “InSight,” Apple TV+ subscribers can use their remote to bring up a display with actor names and character information in real-time. Apple also announced several updates to tvOS, the software running on Apple TV. According to the company, there will be better vocal clarity over background noise, music, and action scenes on Apple TV 4K.

Apple Implements ChatGPT into its Apps, Featuring Siri

Openai And Chatgpt
Apple is bringing ChatGPT, OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot experience, to Siri and other first-party apps and capabilities across its operating systems. You can include photos with the questions you ask ChatGPT via Siri, or ask questions related to your docs or PDFs. Apple’s also integrated ChatGPT into system-wide writing tools like Writing Tools, which lets you create content with ChatGPT — including images — or ask an initial idea and send it to ChatGPT to get a revision or variation back. ChatGPT integrations will arrive on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequoia later this year, Apple says, and will be free without the need to create a ChatGPT or OpenAI account. Subscribers to one of OpenAI’s ChatGPT premium plans will be able to access paid features within Siri and Apple’s other apps with ChatGPT integrations.

Apple Intelligence, Apple’s new generative AI offering, won’t only be a consumer-facing feature — developers will be able to take advantage of the latest technology too. In its keynote address at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday, the company announced that developers would be able to integrate the experience powered by Apple Intelligence into their own apps. For this, Apple demonstrated how an app like Bear Notes would automatically be able to allow users to rewrite, proofread and summarize their notes. The App Intents framework, which allows for lightweight app-like interactions without the app being installed, will also gain access to Apple Intelligence. Developers who want to show off apps, or anyone whose iPhone is currently out of reach, will appreciate a new Continuity feature arriving on the new version of macOS Sequoia. The new OS, announced at WWDC 2024, will allow users to mirror their iPhone screen directly on their Mac and even control it, like swiping through pages on the Home Screen and launching apps via the Mac’s trackpad. In addition, as Apple showed, it would make it easier to use Mac apps and iPhone apps alongside each other. When using the feature, users will be able to use the Mac keyboard to enter text and other input into iPhone apps. Plus, iPhone notifications will appear alongside Mac notifications when it’s mirrored, and users will also be able to interact with them and take action.

Privacy Violations Uncovered: 23andMe Under Scrutiny by UK and Canada Watchdogs

23 And Me Data Breach
Privacy watchdogs in the U.K. and Canada have launched a joint investigation into the data breach at 23andMe last year. In its data breach notices, the company said it didn’t detect the hackers’ activities for around five months, from April until September 2023. 23andMe said it only became aware of the account breaches in October 2023, when hackers advertised the stolen data on the unofficial 23andMe subreddit and a well-known hacking forum. Hackers broke into around 14,000 accounts of 23andMe customers by reusing their passwords from previous breaches, a technique known as password spraying. That’s how the hackers were able to scrape information on 6.9 million users by only hacking 14,000 accounts.

Limiting Children’s Access to ‘Addictive Feeds’ in New York City

New York’s state legislature has passed a bill that would prohibit social media companies from showing so-called “addictive feeds” to children under 18, unless they obtain parental consent. The Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act defines an addictive feed as one where the content is recommended or prioritized based on information about the user or the user’s device — basically, these are the algorithmic news feeds used by most social apps. “Non-addictive feeds,” a category that includes “feeds listed in chronological order,” would still be allowed. “New York is leading the nation to protect our kids from addictive social media feeds and shield their personal data from predatory companies,” Governor Hochul said. It would also prohibit platforms from sending notifications related to these feeds between the ages of midnight and 6am without parental consent.

Reliability firstApple makes some of the most popular devices on the planet, and its AI features should serve to make them more useful. A lot of AI-powered features rely on going back to the cloud to get answers or inputs back. Rumors on the street are that Apple will announce a deal with OpenAI to power AI features across its operating systems. Given AI’s hallucination problems, Apple might not want to be directly involved in content-related AI features just yet. Companies like Google and OpenAI have had to walk back on AI features because of errors or copyright issues.

Priced at $18,999, the Wazer Pro remains significantly more affordable than traditional water jet cutters, costing upward of $100,000. With the launch of the Wazer Pro, Wazer continues to make life interesting for the water-cutting incumbents.
