All-Electric Ram 1500 Rev Boasts 25kWh Battery in 2021.

Although the electric truck war has only recently started heating up, several automakers have been throwing all sorts of technological and EV-inspired bells and whistles into their pickups in an attempt to pull in new buyers and capture a greater slice of the market. One such example is Ford’s recent addition of a larger battery pack to its Bronco pickup. The new pack increases the truck’s range by over thirty percent, making it one of the most powerful electric trucks on the market. Nissan also recently announced plans to add an exponentially increasing number of charging stations to its U.S.-based stores, hoping this will encourage more consumers to switch over from gas-powered vehicles. Though it remains to be seen how successful these efforts will be, there is no doubt that automakers are fully committed to fighting for a piece of this growing market.

The trend of ever-larger, heavier batteries is likely to come to an end soon, as automakers face increasing liability and safety concerns. The latest culprit? The GMC Hummer EV’s 212.7 kWh battery pack, which weighed the same as some small cars. This expensive overweight and oversized battery pack has caused several fatal crashes, prompting many experts in the automotive industry to call for a drastic curtailment in size and weight of future battery packs.

The Stellantis brand’s all-electric pickup truck, the Ram 1500 REV, debuted at the New York International Auto Show and is set to go on sale in 2024. The truck has a 229 kWh battery pack with a targeted range of up to 500 miles. The company plans to sell 275 BEVs globally by the end of the decade.

Pricing for the 2025 Ram 1500 REV has not been released yet, but it is expected to start around $50,000. The initial battery option will be a 18-wheeler battery with a 7,500 pound capacity. This will give buyers an increase of weight and cost over the standard 12-cylinder engine and Standard Access Fuel System (SAFS). Other choices available on the Ram 1500 REV include a 3.6L V6 which delivers 283 horsepower, an updated 8-speed automatic transmission, rearview camera, Sony audio system with Navigation and trailer brake controller.

Tesla buyers who choose the 168 kWh battery pack will get a decent range, but those wanting to travel further can opt for the more powerful 229 kWh battery. This allows owners to travel up to 500 miles on a single charge, which is obviously much farther than what you would obtain with a standard battery pack. Additional cost for this upgrade is an additional $9,000.

The 2019 Nissan Maxima offers a choice of battery sizes, each with its own unique set of benefits. The larger battery option is rated at 110 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes with 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. This extra size allows drivers to enjoy extended trips and increased mileage on their journey.

Electric trucks have been making a lot of noise lately, partly because they offer some very compelling advantages over traditional fuels. Lighter weight is one major benefit – an electric truck can carry the same payload as a traditional truck but weigh much less. Another big plus is that electric trucks don’t need to be recharged, so they’re basically always ready to go.

But while electric trucks may have an initial advantage when it comes to fuel efficiency and emissions, their range could still be limited compared to gas-powered models. Ram teased an all-electric version of its popular pickup truck that should have “class-

With 181 kWh of battery pack capacity, the Rivian max pack will have more than twice the battery capacity of Ford’s 98 kWh Lightning and 131 kWh extended range version. With this much extra power, Rivian anticipates that its max pack model will be capable of traveling up to 310 miles on a single charge, which is significantly higher than any other dual or quad motor truck on the market.

If the Tesla Model S P100D were to achieve an EPA-rated range of over 1,000 miles, with an efficiency rating of around 270 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent), the total battery size would need to be in the neighborhood of 85 kilowatt hours. That’s a sizable battery, but it’s not out of reach for Tesla; the company already manufactures batteries that large for its Model S and X luxury models. So even if Tesla doesn’t share full range or weight information for the P100D just yet, we can safely assume that it will deliver impressive performance both on and off the charts — stretching Musk’s vision even further.
