Cycode: A Revolutionary Approach to Securing Your Code
In the world of tech, security is crucial. One startup, Cycode, has been making waves with its innovative platform for securing applications throughout the software development lifecycle. Today, they announced a major acquisition of Bearer, a Static Application Security Testing (SAST) startup. With the addition of Bearer’s advanced AI technology and exceptional user experience, Cycode is poised to become an all-in-one solution for application security posture management.
Bearer was founded in 2022 and quickly raised an impressive $8 million seed round, led by Alven. Meanwhile, Cycode has garnered over $81 million in funding, including a $56 million Series B round in 2021. It’s this strong financial backing that has allowed Cycode to make important moves like this acquisition. Although the companies did not disclose the price, it’s clear that this was a strategic and necessary step for Cycode’s growth and success.
Speaking with Cycode’s co-founder and CEO, Lior Levy, he emphasized how this acquisition completes their goal of becoming a comprehensive application security platform. While Cycode initially focused on software supply chain security, they realized the need to broaden their scope to better serve their customers. “It’s the right approach to become a platform and this is what we’ve heard from customers,” Levy stated. “So we adopted and addressed those needs.”
The talks between Cycode and Bearer began last August, and it was Cycode’s co-founder and VP of R&D, Dor Atias, who recognized the complimentary value of Bearer’s technology. “The missing part was a SAST tool that can be fast and connected easily to the Cycode platform,” Atias explained. “Bearer invested a lot in the brain of the SAST engine… I tested it a few times and saw that it could be integrated easily.”
And integrate it they did. Despite the deal only closing last week, the Cycode team wasted no time in incorporating Bearer’s technology into their platform. Atias shared that they’re already exploring ways to bring Bearer’s AI solutions to other areas of their platform, including remediation capabilities. By utilizing AI to detect and fix issues before they even enter the source control, Levy believes this is the “secret sauce” for security and will alleviate the burden on both developers and security teams.
This focus on improving the overall experience for both developers and security teams is something Cycode’s CTO, Ronen Slavin, agrees is crucial. “Developers were not hired to fix security issues,” Slavin stated. “They get frustrated and they end up with false positives. Bearer has the highest rate of precision in terms of the rate of false positives.” Slavin also noted the importance of Bearer’s GenAI technology, which provides developers with valuable context for remediation, ultimately improving their experience.
While Bearer will still operate as a stand-alone product for now, Cycode plans to transition all customers to their platform in due time. Bearer’s CEO, Guillaume Montard, expressed enthusiasm about this union, calling it “a critical milestone” in their journey and emphasizing their shared vision of making developer security a team effort. With this acquisition, Cycode is well-positioned to continue advancing the standards of application security posture management.
“We are thrilled to be joining forces with Cycode, a company that shares our vision for making developer security a team sport.”
– Guillaume Montard, Bearer CEO
By incorporating Bearer’s innovative AI and focusing on improving the developer experience, Cycode is undoubtedly making a name for themselves in the application security industry. Their continued dedication and growth will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the world’s best security and development teams.
