According to reports, aviation giant Boeing’s CEO Dave Calhoun will be stepping down from his position by the end of 2024. This news comes in the midst of a series of safety incidents that have caused major disruptions for the company.
The turmoil began with a shocking incident where a cabin panel on one of Boeing’s planes blew out. Following this, there have been multiple other serious incidents that have raised concerns about the safety of the company’s aircraft.
Boeing is known for its ongoing innovation and has even launched a program called Aerospace Xelerated, previously known as Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), to accelerate the growth of startups in the aerospace industry. A vast network of aerospace startups also collaborate with the company. While the company has yet to comment on how Calhoun’s departure will impact these programs, we have reached out to Aerospace Xelerated for a statement.
In a statement released by the company, Calhoun mentions his plans to focus on stabilizing and positioning the company for the future in the months leading up to his departure.
In another unfortunate incident, a brand-new Boeing 737 Max 9 belonging to Alaska Airlines had to make an emergency landing in January, resulting in 171 Max 9 jets being taken out of service for several weeks. This incident has caused Boeing’s biggest safety crisis since 2018 and 2019, when two of their Max 8 jets crashed, claiming the lives of 346 people.
As per the company’s announcement, not only Calhoun, but also Boeing’s commercial airplanes business head Stan Deal will be leaving their positions.
This story is still developing and we will update it as more information becomes available.
