Google has begun rolling out the latest update for ChromeOS users this month, packed with various new features and upgrades. Along with the update, users can expect a more personalized experience through the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts and mouse button actions.
The main attraction of the April update is the new option to assign custom keyboard shortcuts to specific actions. This feature is not entirely new, as it has been available on other desktop operating systems. However, users must manually enable the feature by enabling a setting flag called “#enable-shortcut-customization”. It is worth noting that the keyboard customization shortcut will be enabled by default with the upcoming ChromeOS M124 update.
In addition to keyboard shortcuts, Google has also introduced the ability to customize mouse button actions. For instance, users with a mouse that has more than two buttons can now assign them to perform tasks such as taking a screenshot, muting or unmuting, and inserting emojis. Moreover, users can also set a dedicated key combination for any action performed by a keyboard shortcut.
The ChromeOS M123 update also includes smaller improvements such as the ability to change preferred languages per Android app through “Settings > Apps > Manage your apps > App language”. Additionally, the text-to-speech feature has been enhanced with a more natural sounding voice and now supports 31 languages. The best part? It now works offline too!
As Google continues to enhance the ChromeOS platform, users can expect a more customizable and user-friendly experience with each update. So keep an eye out for the M123 update, as it will be rolling out to users over the next few days.
