TechCrunch has been actively keeping readers up-to-date on the latest developments in Fearless Fund’s courtroom battle to provide business grants specifically for Black women. Today, we are thrilled to announce that Arian Simone, CEO and co-founder of Fearless Fund, will be sharing her story at the Disrupt 2024 Builders Stage in a fireside chat about her organization’s ongoing fight for racial equity.
Fearless Fund has been embroiled in a legal battle since last August when the American Alliance for Equal Rights accused the organization of discriminating against non-Black founders by offering a grant exclusively for businesses owned by Black women.
In a June ruling, an appeals court declared that the business grant offered by Fearless Fund may violate Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, resulting in an indefinite suspension of the grant’s distribution.
Fearless Fund is just one of the many organizations currently facing scrutiny for their diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. This has left the future of these programs uncertain. But the fight is far from over. Tune in to our fireside chat to learn more about the intersection of civil rights and venture capital, only at this year’s Disrupt.
