AI Agents Take Center Stage: Betaworks’ Bold Investment in ‘Camp’ Program

The investor’s latest “Camp” incubator trained up and funded 9 AI agent startups they hope will take on today’s more tedious tasks. The use cases for many of these companies sound promising, but AI tends to have trouble keeping its promises. But are AI agents at that stage? And it’s well within the capabilities of today’s AI agents, which would primarily be tasked with understanding natural language rather than forms. A framework for web-based AI agents with a pay-as-you-go model so if your company’s experiment craters, you only owe a few bucks.

Starlink-bound SpaceX’s financial statements reveal moonshot gambles with large investments

That was also the year SpaceX launched its first 60 Starlink satellites. The company was spending plenty of cash on research and development, too — $559 million in 2018 and $661 million the following year. The Starlink program completed a milestone in 2019, when SpaceX launched the first batch of operational Starlink satellites in May of that year. The company ended the year with cash and cash equivalents of $868 million for 2018 and $990 million for 2019. The company launches its Starlink satellites with its own rocket, its Falcon 9 workhorse, which means it can launch the space-based internet satellites at unprecedented rates.

“Amazon Takes a $4B Gamble on Anthropic’s Triumph”

Tc Minute Anthropic Yt
The current AI wave is a never-ending barrage of news items. To understand what I mean, ask yourself how long you spent considering the fact that Amazon put another $2.75 billion into Anthropic AI last week. We’ve become inured to the capital influx that is now common in AI, even as the headline numbers get even bigger. Sure, Amazon is slinging cash at Anthropic, but single-digit billions are chump change compared to what some companies have planned. Hell, even smaller tech companies — compared to the true giants — are spending to stay on the cutting edge.

Bet Evolution: Advanced Manufacturing Needed for the Future of Hydrogen Fuel

In an alkaline electrolyzer, two electrodes are submerged in a solution of alkaline water (usually consisting of a high concentration of potassium or sodium hydroxide). Alkaline electrolysis differs from the other main approach, proton-exchange membrane electrolysis, in a few ways. One of the most important, though, is that alkaline electrolysis doesn’t require expensive exotic metals like platinum. That gives alkaline electrolyzers a cost advantage from the start, one that Evoloh says it builds on with its lower-cost manufacturing. To further trim manufacturing costs, Evoloh uses roll-to-roll printing, a technique pioneered centuries ago by printing presses and more recently used in battery manufacturing.

“Midjourney Takes on Copyright Police in Exciting AI Showdown”

Generative AI models like Midjourney’s are trained on an enormous number of examples — e.g. Some vendors have taken a proactive approach, inking licensing agreements with content creators and establishing “opt-out” schemes for training data sets. The problem with benchmarks: Many, many AI vendors claim their models have the competition met or beat by some objective metric. Anthropic launches new models: AI startup Anthropic has launched a new family of models, Claude 3, that it claims rivals OpenAI’s GPT-4. AI models have been helpful in our understanding and prediction of molecular dynamics, conformation, and other aspects of the nanoscopic world that may otherwise take expensive, complex methods to test.

“Game-Changing Kilns: Furno’s Bet on Revolutionizing the Cement Industry”

Furno Kiln Prototype
The goal was straightforward but ambitious: upend the cement industry. Furno’s smaller kilns fly in the face of trends in the cement industry today, which has been chasing ever larger equipment. By building smaller kilns, Furno is hoping to lower capital expenditures through mass production and lower operating expenses through energy efficiency. And because Furno’s kilns are smaller, they could allow cement to be remade right on a construction site. Already, Furno has captured the attention of ready-mix concrete companies, which have to buy cement from vertically integrated companies.

Goldman Sachs takes a chance on Simetrik’s innovative payments infrastructure technology

Where it is differentiating itself is through its Simetrik Building Blocks, or SBBs, which are scalable and adaptable concepts based on no-code development and generative AI technologies. In the past two years, the company grew to have clients in more than 35 countries, up from 10, and is monitoring over 200 million records every day. Previously that was 70 million records daily. The use of the new funds will go into further developing the Simetrik Building Blocks, enhancing AI capabilities and continuing to expand Simetrik’s international reach. They need a new approach, and that is where our building blocks have a strong product market piece.”

In fact, in the midst of raising the firm’s fourth fund, he seems to be positively cheery about the state of the crypto market despite how things are going. With over $1.2 billion in assets under management, 10T counts major crypto entities like Gemini, Kraken, Yuga Labs and Animoca Brands as part of its portfolio. And 1Roundtable Partners (1RT), Tapiero’s growth-stage firm, is also raising a not-insignificant amount for its upcoming fund: a minimum of $200 million and up to $800 million. As the bear market thaws, Tapiero sees few other growth equity investors dedicated to the crypto space at this point in time. Taking the long viewWith the new fund, 1RT plans to make about 10 to 15 additional investments with hopes of gaining another five to 10 board seats across those portfolio companies, Tapiero said.

Honda’s CES 2024 Preview: ‘Thin and Light’ 0 Series EVs Lead the Charge for Electric Future

Honda Saloon Concept Vehicle Ces 2024
Honda is dunking on the ‘thick, heavy’ electric vehicle trend in an attempt to build buzz around its upcoming 0 series EVs. Honda also didn’t say specify if it plans to use such materials when it commercially launches its first 0 series electric vehicles. Honda has lagged in the switch to electrics, and it recently called it quits on a plan to co-develop “affordable” electric vehicles with GM. Though Honda plans to launch an electric Prologue this year, the automaker intends to launch 30 EVs by 2030. That’s why the 0 series launch will be a big moment for Honda.

The Future of Gaming: A Startup’s Bold Belief in Embracing the Bane Look

We previewed Skyted’s voice-capturing mask last week, but when I came across the startup at CES 2024, I had to check it out for myself in person. You can read all about the tech in our previous article, but what is it actually like in person? “We launched a mobile application that will give you information about how big your ‘sound bubble’ is. The team has some ideas:“We’re looking at various customer segments; mostly businesses, open spaces, like offices where this would be a huge. We also looking at B2C, for use cases such as gaming,” explains Daridon.
