The most widespread type of battery, lithium-ion, still costs around $140 per kilowatt-hour for a pack. Instead, manufacturers have started to explore sodium-ion batteries, not as a replacement, but as a complement to lithium-ion. To deliver that many batteries, Unigrid isn’t going to be building its own factories. Small vehicles like these are popular in India and Southeast Asia, where the intense heat can make lithium-ion batteries prone to overheating. To get its sodium-ion batteries into production, Unigrid has raised a $12 million Series A.

Affordable and Cloud-Based Data Streaming: The WarpStream Solution

When the open source streaming service, Apache Kafka, was created in 2011 at LinkedIn, it was a different world. The way they do that is by taking advantage of today’s cloud environment to separate compute from storage using an object storage service like Amazon S3. “When you interact and store data in cloud object storage you get to sidestep all these networking fees that plague these big data systems when they get lifted, shifted into the cloud,” he said. “Based on our experience building the kind of storage system on top of object storage we had built at DataDog, we felt like streaming systems should work the same way. The founders brought some of the folks who helped build Husky to build the new system, and today they have 9 employees.

Innovative Moon Lander by Intuitive Machines: Advancing Space Exploration with Revolutionary Rocket Propulsion at a Reduced Cost

Intuitive Machines Odysseus Descending 1
Intuitive Machines’ first lunar lander officially lost power today after spending seven days on the moon. That propulsion system, which uses a combination of cryogenic liquid oxygen and liquid methane, could unlock new capabilities in space and de-risk future missions by other commercial providers. Before Intuitive Machines’ IM-1 mission, no lander had ever used this combination of propellants. After the successful launch, Intuitive Machines’ also ran into a brief issue chilling the liquid oxygen feed line, which took longer than anticipated. Two VR900 engines will also be used on Intuitive Machines’ much larger “Nova-D” spacecraft, to deliver 500-750 kilograms of payload to the moon.

“Experience Budget-Friendly Tickets and a Thriving Social Community with EQ Tickets”

Eq Tickets
Those shared interests combined with Ryan’s understanding of the market — and the margins necessary to be successful — led to the founding of EQ Tickets. Initially, EQ Tickets focused on developing a secondary ticket marketplace, similar to something like StubHub, Vivid Seats, or SeatGeek. The final tie-in is EQ Tickets’ primary ticketing marketplace, which helps turn the site into a one-stop shop for big events. The primary ticketing platform hadn’t yet been announced as EQ Tickets was working directly with select clients to test the service. EQ Tickets is currently available via the web and mobile web but plans to launch a native mobile app later this year.

Challenging the Assumption: Reconsidering Christensen’s Theory of Disruption

Clayton Christensen was an amazing observer of business, and his work on disruption is seminal. But has he been proven wrong in the last 10 years on many major disruptions? What if the bottom-up cheaper product disrupting the market is a phenomenon limited to commoditized old product categories (think tires and clothes)? The Christensen theory of disruption could be called “inferior disruption theory” — inferior, cheaper, good enough products that disrupt incumbents over time. While this clearly happens, there’s a more powerful model for disruption.
