Meta announced on Tuesday it’s rolling out the ability for Messenger users to create shared albums in chats, send photos in high-definition, and share larger files up to 100MB in size. With these new features, Messenger is targeting people who tend to create shared albums or share HD images via services like Google Drive. Now, users can create albums of photos and videos in group chats, whether it’s to organize photos of a recent spring break or grandma’s 80th birthday celebration. The launch of the new feature follows Meta’s rollout of support for HD photos on WhatsApp back in September 2023. The new features are rolling out on mobile to all Messenger users.

Security Breach: Microsoft’s Workforce Reveals Internal Passwords

Microsoft has resolved a security lapse that exposed internal company files and credentials to the open internet. The Azure storage server housed code, scripts and configuration files containing passwords, keys and credentials used by the Microsoft employees for accessing other internal databases and systems. Yoleri told TechCrunch that the exposed data could potentially help malicious actors identify or access other places where Microsoft stores its internal files. The researchers notified Microsoft of the security lapse on February 6, and Microsoft secured the spilling files on March 5. Microsoft did not say if it had reset or changed any of the exposed internal credentials.

The $90 million in new capital, it said, “is expected to provide sufficient liquidity to support the Company throughout this process and beyond. The news should not come as a surprise: there have been murmurs of the company’s impending bankruptcy since last year. At the time, the company had just raised $1 billion at a valuation, it said, of “up to” $10 billion. (It noted that even in 2022 it was “just” $4.5 billion, not the $10 billion that the company had said it was.)

Reddit Finally Goes Public

Social media giant Reddit filed to go public today. Today Reddit approaches the public markets with more than $800 million worth of revenue in 2023, up from $666.7 million in 2022. In 2022 Reddit generated a net loss of $158.6 million, and adjusted EBITDA of negative $108.4 million. That figure includes a massive $410 million Series F raised in 2021 and a smaller $368 million Series E raised earlier the same year. That makes it worth roughly 7.5% of its 2023 revenue, a very nice tailwind for its 2024 results.

“Terraform Labs Declares Chapter 11 Bankruptcy”

Singapore-based Terraform Labs (TFL), the company behind digital assets TerraUSD (UST) and Luna, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware following the collapse of its cryptocurrencies in 2022. According to a court document filed today, Terraform Labs’ estimated assets and liabilities range from $100 million to $500 million, while the number of creditors is between 100 and 199. Terraform Labs plans to continue expanding its Web3 business, according to its statement. Founded in 2018, Terraform Labs wiped out at least $40 billion in market value and collapsed the crypto industry in May 2022. The bankruptcy filing comes four days after the U.S. SEC agreed to postpone the civil trial against Do Kwon Terraform Labs co-founder over an alleged $40 billion cryptocurrency fraud to March 25 from January 29.

USDC stablecoin issuer Circle files confidentially for an IPO Here we go againCircle Internet Financial (Circle) has confidentially filed for a proposed IPO, the company said on Thursday. Circle is the issuer of the stablecoin USDC, which has the second-largest market capitalization on the market, worth about $25.25 billion, according to CoinMarketCap. The largest stablecoin, Tether, had a market cap of $94.65 billion, at the time of publication. The number of shares and price range for the proposed IPO is yet to be determined, the company said. Circle did not immediately respond to queries on how this IPO will be different from its previous SPAC efforts.

Ola Electric from India: A $662 Million IPO Proposal

India’s Ola Electric seeks to raise $661.8 million in an initial public offering, the Bengaluru-headquartered startup said in draft papers filed with the country’s market regulator on Friday. The paperwork for the initial public offering follows Ola Electric raising $384 million from Temasek and Indian government-backed lender State Bank of India in a debt-heavy funding round in late October. Led by Aggarwal, Ola Electric emerged out of the ride-hailing giant Ola in 2019. He is also the Chairman and Managing Director of ANI Technologies Private Limited and has recently founded a new startup, Krutrim SI Designs Private Limited. His involvement with ANI Technologies Private Limited and Krutrim SI Designs Private Limited may detract from the time that he is able to dedicate to our Company,” the prospectus added.

Bird, Leading Electric Scooter Company, Declares Bankruptcy

Bird has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, capping off a turbulent year for the electric scooter company. This decline led the NYSE to issue a warning that Bird’s share price was too low. Separately, Bird also announced a round of layoffs shortly after buying rival Spin for $19 million. Chapter 11A Chapter 11 bankruptcy will enable Bird to restructure its financials without disrupting day-to-day operations, with Apollo Global Management division MidCap Financial among existing lenders providing $25 million in financing through the bankruptcy proceedings. And in Europe, dockless scooter startup Tier recently laid off 22% of its workforce, which followed Dutch e-bike startup VanMoof’s bankruptcy proceedings.
