Apple announced a ton of new AI features under the new Apple Intelligence moniker. While the features are free to use, only a limited number of devices will get access to them. These devices include on iPhone 15 Pro along with iPad and Mac with M1 or newer chips. So older iPhones or iPhone 15 users won’t be able to use these abilities. The new Apple Intellgience features include revamped Siri, writing features across the system, image generation capabilities, and genAI-powered emoji.

The addition of music videos is included among these new features in the U.S.Spotify recently announced its plans to support music videos, saying in March it would test the option in beta in 11 select markets — which, at the time, didn’t include the U.S. With the UMG deal, U.S. users will also have the option of watching music videos instead of just streaming audio. To watch videos, Spotify users can access a new “Switch to Video” option from the app’s Now Playing Screen. For instance, UMG artists will be able to share teasers of upcoming songs and users will be able to pre-save music before a new release. By partnering with Spotify, UMG still has a way to promote its music to fans, even if its artists lose the ability to market themselves on TikTok.

The company has offered accessibility-focused Xbox peripheral for some time and has introduced the Adaptive line of computing peripherals roughly this time last year. The Adaptive line got a refresh and a couple of new entries at this week’s virtual Windows event. This round brings back the Adaptive Mouse, which features thumb support and custom tails 3D printed by Shapeways. The Adaptive Hub is effectively an adaptive accessory for the other adaptive accessories, allowing for up to three devices and four Adaptive Buttons to be connected wirelessly. Rounding out Microsoft’s new accessibility accessories is a Surface Pro Keyboard with brighter backlighting and bolder text for users with vision impairments.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is pumping $3.5 million into C16 Biosciences, the Y Combinator-backed company fermenting alternatives to the environmentally destructive palm oil business. While the industry’s given itself something of a makeover lately, deforestation linked to palm oil production is once again on the rise. Using yeast and agriculturally derived feedstocks, C16 already brews an alternative to the seed oil for use in beauty products, under the name Palmless. A 2020 study found that climate pollution from palm oil plantations alone equate to about half that of the whole aviation industry. In addition to the Gates Foundation and Elemental, C16’s previous investors include Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy and DCVC.
