Human Native AI is a London-based startup building a marketplace to broker such deals between the many companies building LLM projects and those willing to license data to them. Human Native AI also helps rights holders prepare and price their content and monitors for any copyright infringements. Human Native AI takes a cut of each deal and charges AI companies for its transaction and monitoring services. Human Native AI announced a £2.8 million seed round led by LocalGlobe and Mercuri, two British micro VCs, this week. It is also a smart time for Human Native AI to launch.

Is OpenAI Dominating the Market with its Publisher Agreements?

OpenAI’s legal battle with The New York Times over data to train its AI models might still be brewing. But OpenAI’s forging ahead on deals with other publishers, including some of France’s and Spain’s largest news publishers. OpenAI on Wednesday announced that it signed contracts with Le Monde and Prisa Media to bring French and Spanish news content to OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot. So, OpenAI’s revealed licensing deals with a handful of content providers at this point. The Information reported in January that OpenAI was offering publishers between $1 million and $5 million a year to access archives to train its GenAI models.

Reddit rakes in over $200M through data licensing agreements

In its IPO prospectus filed today with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Reddit repeatedly emphasized how much it thinks it stands to gain — and has gained — from data licensing agreements with the companies training AI models on its over one billion posts and over 16 billion comments. “In January 2024, we entered into certain data licensing arrangements with an aggregate contract value of $203.0 million and terms ranging from two to three years,” the prospectus reads. “We expect a minimum of $66.4 million of revenue to be recognized during the year ending December 31, 2024 and the remaining thereafter.”Now, it’s a mystery as to which AI vendors are licensing data from Reddit so far. Why’s Reddit data valuable? Reddit previously didn’t gate access to its data for AI training purposes.
