A $58M round for this European Mycelium startup shows the tech is on the cusp of big thingsInfinite Roots (IR), formerly Mushlabs, is a German biotech company which has been plying the furrow of Mycelium, the material coming from fungi which has been hailed as something of an answer to everything from food to building materials. Existing investors, including Clay Capital, FoodLabs, Redalpine, Simon Capital and Happiness Capital also participated. Prior to this round IR had raised a Series A of $10 million. The company said it plans to use the new round to switch into commercial growth, expand its production capacities, and invest in launch activities. For instance, last year Meati Foods moved into full-scale production of its mycelium-based whole-food protein, launching a “Mega Ranch,” in Colorado financed in part by a $150 million Series C round and an extension round of $22 million.

Creating Optimal VR Applications: Focusing on Specific Use Cases Instead of General Computing

Apple’s Vision Pro launch resembles its Apple Watch debut in more ways than one, but to me the most telling similarity is in the marketing approach. The company took the same approach with the Apple Watch, which like its face computer cousin, was more or less a solution in search of a problem when it originally debuted. But the iPhone debuted with a much more focused, and much more accurate idea of what it would become for users than the Apple Watch did. The Vision Pro, I’d argue, is even more adrift from how and why people will come to appreciate it. It’s terrible at a lot of other things – chief among them being the next big thing in the vein of personal computing or mobile.

Flagship Specs and Premium Price: The Upcoming OnePlus 12

Lifestyle 1 Cropped
The Oppo-owned phone maker just debuted its latest flagship, the OnePlus 12. Zoom goes up to 120x, but you’re going to start introducing noise into the photo after around 6x. Meanwhile a new “Master Mode” brings additional options to OnePlus’ Pro Mode feature, including adjustments to things like contrast, saturation, sharpness and tint. Flagship specs at flagship prices. If that’s a bit too step, the new OnePlus 12R starts at $500 – less than half the price.

Potential EU Intervention Looms Over Amazon and iRobot Partnership

The deal’s latest hurdle is the European Commission, which has set a February 14 deadline to reach a final decision. According to a new report, the EU regulatory body is set to vote against acquisition, citing the perceived anti-competitive nature of deal. In July, Amazon announced that it was lowering its asking price from $61 to $51.75 per share. The day the initial deal was announced, iRobot cut its headcount by 10% — around 140 people – as part of a restructure. As of this writing, share prices have dipped below $20 – one-third of where things where when the deal was announced.

“Unveiling Rypplzz: A $3 Million Seed Deck for Your Inspiration”

Pitch Deck Teardown
This week, we’re taking a look at a pitch deck from Rypplzz (pronounced “ripples”), a spatial technology startup that recently raised $3 million. As a rule, a pitch deck should never exceed 20MB because many email servers don’t like big attachments. While this slide explains what the product is and its capabilities, it falls short of being a comprehensive product slide. Enhancing a product slide with these details can elevate the pitch and make it more compelling. In the rest of this teardown, we’ll take a look at three things Rypplzz could have improved or done differently, along with its full pitch deck!

Qortex’s $10 M Presentation Deconstruction: Analyzing the Seed Deck

Qortex Pdt
This week’s Pitch Deck Teardown comes to you from the PCB-laden confines of CES in Las Vegas. Today, we’re looking at the slide deck that video analytics firm Qortex used to raise a $10 million seed round. To be honest, I’m a little surprised the company managed to raise money at all with this pitch deck, but the fact that it did manage to raise $10 million is a good reminder that the deck is only a part of the puzzle. In the rest of this teardown, we’ll take a look at three things Qortex could have improved or done differently, along with its full pitch deck! Three things that could be improvedAbove, I noted the glaring absence of several key slides that investors usually like to see in a pitch deck.

VinFast’s EV expansion includes new electric pickup truck in growing production plans

Vinfast Ces 2024
Vietnamese EV startup VinFast is trying to get into the electric pickup truck game, as it revealed a new concept called the VF Wild at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. The company announced it also plans to start selling its smallest EV, the VF3, outside of Vietnam as previously hinted. The VF3 is a plucky little EV that VinFast announced in Vietnam earlier this year. Developing a truck and globally launching a compact EV aren’t even the biggest things on VinFast’s plate. Globally, the overwhelming majority of VinFast’s EV sales have been to a taxi company owned by Vuong.

Unveiling Samsung’s Expanded, Dynamic, and Flexible Displays at CES 2024

It’s an opportunity to take advantage of the brief Sunday morning news lull before the deluge kicks into full effect Monday. Tomorrow is, after all, when Samsung will host its CES 2024 press conference along with other big names like Sony and LG. “In&Out Flip is a technology that can provide a new alternative for consumers who prefer bar-shaped smartphones due to the thickness of foldable products,” the company said in a release. As for testing the tech, Samsung apparently utilized the device in temperatures ranging from -4-degrees up to 140-degrees Fahrenheit. The technology appears on the Rollable Flex, as well as the Flex Hybrid, the latter of which combines it with a sliding display.

Welcome to the TechCrunch Exchange, a weekly startups-and-markets newsletter. I would be lying if I said that mixed reality and generative AI were two of my favorite things. And yet, a Christmas Day TV special made me unexpectedly bullish about them. — AnnaVersailles 400I am not an early adopter of the metaverse. But I am ready for things to change in 2024, with new mixed-reality experiences that cater to people like me.
