At last year’s DockerCon, Docker launched its Docker Build remote build service and today it is taking this a step further with the launch of Docker Build Cloud, a fully managed service that, you guessed it, allows development teams to offload their image builds to the cloud.
“Every week, millions of developers run ‘docker build [x],” Giri Sreenivas, Docker’s chief product officer, told me, referring to the standard command developers use to kick off their Docker builds.
“Docker builds are being run in both places, so let’s go ahead and make sure we can support accelerating builds in either of those locations,” he said.
Developers can then buy Docker Build Cloud plans starting at $5 per seat/month for 200 build minutes, with extra time on top of that costing $0.05/minute.
That cloud mean, for example, that Docker Cloud Build would work in tandem with Docker Scout, its service for finding vulnerable packages in a container, and then create a more secure build that developers could switch over to.
Telegram is rolling out a bunch of upgrades as part of its January feature drop including “view-once” video and audio messages, the ability to pause recording while sending a video or an audio message, and new read-time controls.
Now, the company is extending this feature to voice and video messages.
Users can hit the mic icon to start recording and then pull up to tap on the “view-once” icon to allow the recipient to hear the voice message or look at the video message just once.
Additionally, Telegram is rolling out the ability to pause and resume recording for voice and video messages through the same menu.
Telegram is also adding a way for people to see when the recipient reads your message in one-on-one private chats.
Apple announced today that Apple Music subscribers now have access to collaborative playlists with the launch of iOS 17.3.
When users are in a car and streaming music through Apple Music, other trusted iPhone devices will get an invite to join the session.
Listeners can then control the music from their own devices, even if they don’t have an Apple Music subscription.

To turn on Stolen Device Protection, you need to go into your settings then tap “Face ID & Passcode.” You then need to enter your device passcode tap to turn Stolen Device Protection on.

A bug on X, formerly Twitter, was causing numerous posts over the weekend to be flagged as “Sensitive Media,” thwarting the company’s own attempts to make its platform more approachable to advertisers.
Today, a bug in our system caused X to incorrectly label numerous posts as Sensitive Media.
— Safety (@Safety) January 21, 2024“Sensitive media” is a label X uses to denote content that others may not wish to see, like violence or nudity.
X asks its users who want to regularly post such items, to adjust their media settings to appropriately mark their images.
This is being fixed.” An hour later, he reposted the message from the X safety team which referred to the issue as a bug.
The Digital Markets Act (DMA) applies to just six (mostly US) tech giants, including Meta.
The incoming choices will also enable regional users of Facebook Messenger to stop Meta combining their data with their use of its social network.
This is the only alternative Meta currently offers EU users who don’t want it to process their information to run tracking ads.
And it remains to be seen whether EU data protection regulators will accept it.
An ex ante reform of digital competition law in Germany already led to Meta making some concessions over cross-site tracking last June.
Chronosphere, a startup that offers a cloud native observability platform, today announced that it has acquired Calyptia.
“With observability data growing by orders of magnitude, companies are ill-equipped to manage the costs and scale of this deluge, forcing their teams to make trade-offs.
Teams are especially challenged to handle log data which is prohibitively expensive to move and store,” said Martin Mao, CEO and co-founder of Chronosphere.
Chronosphere also notes that it will continue Calyptia’s engagement with the open source Fluent Ecosystem.
“Calyptia joining the Chronosphere team is excellent news for everyone who is invested in the future of open source cloud native technology,” said Chris Aniszczyk, CTO of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.
Staniszewski says that he and Dabkowski, who grew up in Poland, were inspired to create voice cloning tools by poorly dubbed American films.
Paying customers can upload voice samples to craft new styles using ElevenLabs’ voice cloning.
The infamous message board 4chan, known for its conspiratorial content, used ElevenLabs’ tools to share hateful messages mimicking celebrities like actress Emma Watson.
Then there’s the elephant in the room: the existential threat platforms like ElevenLabs pose to the voice acting industry.
Even this didn’t please some voice actors, however — including SAG-AFTRA’s own members.
TikTok has been experimenting with an auto scrolling mechanic for months now, allowing you to watch TikTok hands-free.
To use the auto scroll feature, you hold down on a video on TikTok’s For You page – similar to if you want to repost a video – and click the auto scroll button.
If you land on a photo post, however, the scrolling will stop until you swipe through all the photos.
To turn off the feature, hold down on your phone screen again and select “Manual scroll.”Since auto scrolling is still being tested, the feature is only available to a select number of TikTok users.
TikTok’s auto scroll has been highly requested among users, with many searching for hacks online to make their daily TikTok viewing experience more efficient.
Now, new data indicates that TikTok’s growth has started to slow, begging the question if the app’s move into e-commerce via TikTok Shop is to blame.
According to new data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, while TikTok’s growth remains positive, that growth is decelerating.
The change comes on the heels of TikTok’s launch of TikTok Shop in the U.S.
While TikTok users are adapting to their favorite social network turning into an online mall, TikTok’s Shop Seller app, which powers its e-commerce initiative, has grown.
However, users aren’t yet so upset with TikTok Shop as to abandon the app for Instagram Reels.
