Android Users Can Now Search Conversations by Date using WhatsApp

WhatsApp announced today that it is rolling out a “search by date” function for individual and group chats on Android devices. Users can only search for a chat on a particular date instead of specifying a date range. To use the feature, users have to go a one-on-one or group chat details by tapping on the contact or the group name. To search by date, they have to tap on the search button and then tap the calendar icon. Users can already search through conversations by media type such as links, media, and docs through the conversation detail page.

WhatsApp has just unveiled a new feature for Android users today – the ability to “search by date” in individual and group chats. This highly-requested feature has already been available on other platforms such as iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web.

The exciting announcement was made by none other than Mark Zuckerberg himself, who shared a video on his WhatsApp channel demonstrating the new feature by searching for an old chat about Karaoke. However, there is one small limitation, as users can only search for chats on a specific date, rather than a range of dates.

In order to use this new function, users will have to access the one-on-one or group chat details by tapping on the contact or group name. From there, they can tap on the search button and then the calendar icon to search by date.

WhatsApp users are already familiar with the ability to search through conversations by media type, including links, media, and documents, via the conversation details page.

The popular messaging app has also been testing other search-related features, such as chat filters. In December, tech blog WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp was experimenting with filters such as “All”, “Unread”, “Contacts”, and “Groups”. More recently, they announced the development of a new filter called “Favorites” which will allow users to quickly access their starred messages.

Last week, WhatsApp also introduced new text formatting options for individual and group chats, including bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code. And let’s not forget, Channels – another recent addition to the platform.

“WhatsApp has been continuously updating and improving its features to enhance the user experience,” said Zuckerberg.
