“Threads,” the Twitter-like app from Instagram, is adding a new feature to its platform: live scores for sports games! Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday that Threads has begun testing NBA live scores and plans to expand to other leagues in the future.
This launch comes as Threads continues to challenge X, a competitor that has offered live scores for a variety of sports for the past decade. With this new addition, Threads hopes to attract users who typically turn to X for live game discussions and updates. But the app isn’t just adding live scores – users can also tap on a team’s logo to join the conversation and connect with others who support the same team.
“The new feature will make it easier for users to participate in conversations about their favorite teams,” says Threads as reported by TechCrunch. According to the company, basketball has become one of the most popular topics on the social network, and the NBA community on Threads is one of the most active.
The ultimate goal of this new feature is to make Threads the go-to platform for sports discourse.
To use the live scores feature, simply search for a game on Threads within one day of its start time. During the game, you can search for it to see the current score in real-time. And after the game has ended, you can search for it to view the final score.
With the addition of live scores, Threads is further solidifying its position as a rival for X. Earlier this week, it rolled out its “trending now” feature to all U.S. users. This update brings Threads even closer to X, as it allows users to discover timely conversations happening on the social network.
