Android Studio’s newest update: Gemini integration provides increased coding support

Google continues rolling out Gemini to different products as today the company announced that Android Studio’s bot is getting upgraded with Gemini Pro. In May 2023, during the Google IO developer event, the company first introduced Studio Bot powered by the PaLM-2 foundation model. The company is rolling out Gemini in Android Studio in over 180 countries for the Android Studio Jellyfish version. Just like the Studio Bot, the new Gemini bot lives in the IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and developers can ask coding-related questions. The company said users can easily access the Gemini API starter template through Android Studio to add generative AI-powered features to their apps.

Google is expanding the reach of Gemini, their cutting-edge AI tool, to various products in their arsenal. In a recent announcement, the company revealed that their beloved Android Studio Bot will now be upgraded with Gemini Pro.

It was back in May of 2023, during the annual Google IO developer event, when the company first introduced the Studio Bot. Powered by the exceptional PaLM-2 foundation model, the Bot quickly became a fan favorite. The new and improved Gemini adds a whole new level of functionality to the Bot, which has now been rolled out to over 180 countries for the Android Studio Jellyfish version.

In February, Google took a similar step when they upgraded their popular chatbot, Bard, from PaLM-2 to Gemini Pro.

Just like the Studio Bot, the new Gemini bot lives in the IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and developers can ask coding-related questions.

The company is confident that developers will be pleased with the upgraded Bot as it promises to increase the accuracy of code completion, debugging, and finding helpful resources, as well as improving the overall writing and documentation process.

To ensure the protection of user privacy, Google has made it mandatory for users to login and explicitly enable Gemini before using it. Additionally, the chatbot’s responses are heavily reliant on the conversation history and context provided by the developer.

But that’s not all – Google has made it incredibly easy for developers to incorporate the power of Gemini into their own apps. The company has included a handy Gemini API starter template in the Android Studio, allowing developers to effortlessly add AI-generated features to their apps.

It is evident that Google is constantly striving to compete with other similar tools in the market, such as GitHub Copilot. In fact, last year, they introduced the PaLM-2-based Codey assistant to assist with programming queries and managing Google Cloud Services.
