Google Terminates 28 Employees for Participating in Sit-In Against Contract with Israel’s Project Nimbus

Projectnimbusprotests
Google has terminated the employment of 28 employees following a prolonged sit-in protest at the company’s Sunnyvale and New York offices. The protests were in response to Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion cloud computing contract inked by Google and Amazon with the Israeli government and its military three years ago. So many workers don’t know that Google has this contract with the IOF [Israel Offensive Forces]. Those of us sitting in Thomas Kurian’s office repeatedly requested to speak with the Google Cloud CEO, but our requests were denied. Hundreds and thousands of Google workers have joined No Tech for Apartheid’s call for the company to Drop Project Nimbus.

October Launch to Determine Success of Inversion Space’s Space Delivery Technology

Inversion Ray
Inversion Space is aptly named. Inversion has developed a pathfinder vehicle, called Ray, that’s a technical precursor to a larger platform that will debut in 2026. Impressively, the company has designed and built almost all of the Ray vehicle in-house, from the propulsion system to the structure to the parachutes. “The purpose of our Ray vehicle is to develop technology for our next-gen vehicle. As such, we’ve built basically the entire vehicle in-house,” Fiaschetti said.

Preventing the Next Major API Breach: Vorlon’s Mission

But the enormous growth of API usage — around half of all internet traffic — is putting businesses’ data at risk. Cybersecurity startup Vorlon says it helps businesses protect their data from such incidents using its platform, and raised $15.7 million to improve its technology. Founded in 2022 by former Palo Alto Networks executives Amir Khayat and Amichay Spivak, Vorlon analyzes network traffic to detect and remediate potential API abuse in real-time. Vorlon uses AI to analyze and map all the API communication it monitors and translate it into human-readable language. Khayat said Vorlon doesn’t send chatbot data anywhere; instead, it sends user queries to its own databases, and the chatbot will return the information from the startup’s database.

“Revolutionizing Security Tools with Simbian’s AI Integration”

After leaving Nvidia in 2010, Kumar pivoted to cybersecurity, eventually co-founding Fortanix, a cloud data security platform. Leveraging AI, Simbian can automatically orchestrate and operate existing security tools, finding the right configurations for each product by taking into account a company’s priorities and thresholds for security, informed by their business requirements. A separate study found that organizations now juggle on average 76 different security tools, leading IT teams and leaders to feel overwhelmed. In addition to automatically configuring a company’s security tools, the Simbian platform attempts to respond to “security events” by letting customers steer security while taking care of lower-level details. But that assumes Simbian’s AI doesn’t make mistakes, a tall order, given that it’s well established that AI is error-prone.

Suspected False Sales by Faraday Future Prompts Legal Action

Ff91 Ev
Two internal whistleblowers at Faraday Future claim the troubled EV company has been lying about some of the few sales it has announced to date. What’s more, they claim Faraday Future has been performing repairs on these early customer vehicles without proper documentation or work authorization, which he says could put the company’s license with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair at risk. Faraday Future allegedly fired Guerrero on January 18 in retaliation for speaking up, according to his complaint. Jia’s control over Faraday Future has always been a thorny issue. Jia is still not CEO, but Guerrero and Xie claim in their lawsuits that he “heads a shadow organization” that controls the company’s destiny.

Simplifying Agent Creation with Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Agent Builder

Android Ecosystem
AI agents are the new hot craze in generative AI. On Tuesday at Google Cloud Next, the company introduced a new tool to help companies build AI agents. “Vertex AI Agent Builder allows people to very easily and quickly build conversational agents,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said. In this case, it’s relying on Google Search (which in reality could or could not be accurate). “We’re now bringing you grounding in Google Search, bringing the power of the world’s knowledge that Google Search offers through our grounding service to models.

“Prepare for an Unforgettable Experience at Apple WWDC 2024: June 10-14, Expect the ‘A.I.'”, Delightful!

Apple.wwdc21.tim Cook.01
Apple SVP Greg “Joz” Joswiak just confirmed via the social media platform formerly known as Twitter that the company’s annual World Wide Developer Conference is set for June 10-14. In what is no doubt a nod to the company’s artificial intelligence ambitions, the exec is promising that the event will be “Absolutely Incredible.”Mark your calendars for #WWDC24, June 10-14. pic.twitter.com/YIln5972ZD — Greg Joswiak (@gregjoz) March 26, 2024As the name “D” in WWDC suggests, the event is heavily focused on developers for Apple’s various operating systems. WWDC seems like the most likely platform for such an announcement — and, perhaps, details on a rumored Google Gemini partnership for the iPhone. As ever, the event will include a small cohort of “winners,” 50 of whom will be invited to the in-person event in Cupertino.

share at 34: Reddit sets IPO price at the peak of range

Reddit Ipo V3
Reddit prices IPO at $34 per share, the top of the rangeReddit priced its stock on Wednesday at $34 a share, the top of the anticipated range, a signal that investors are excited about the company’s IPO on Thursday. The social media giant raised nearly $500 million in the offering. Despite being profitable on EBITDA basis, Instacart and Klaviyo, two main IPOs of 2023, had lukewarm receptions on Wall Street last year. But Reddit is still generating net losses of more than $90 million, which may bode poorly for the company’s stock amid push for profitability for newly traded companies. The firm sold $203 million worth of contracts to AI companies for access to its data in January, according to a recent filing.

Fighting Cyber Threats with Existing Tools: How Reach Security Helps Companies Defend Themselves

Security Bryce Shadow Looming
Well, if you ask Garrett Hamilton, they should give Reach Security a whirl. Instead of serving as just another layer in a company’s cybersecurity stack, Reach connects to a company’s existing IT and security products, collecting data on attacks and recommending ways to combat them using security tools that the company already owns. They’re wrong.”Prior to Reach, Hamilton worked at Palo Alto Networks, where he was director of product management. A survey from security posture management vendor Panaseer found that organizations manage on average between 64 to 76 security tools (as of 2022). Reach also auto-tunes security tool configurations to try to prevent attacks, prioritizing actions based on how the attacks are being carried out.
