Microsoft Forges Ahead to Create Mobile Games Store With Regulatory Support

The success of Google and Apple’s app stores has led to a dominance in the mobile market for those platforms. However, Microsoft is preparing to disrupt this duopoly by building its own app store. If successful, this would lead to more competition and hopefully provide better options for users.

Phil Spencer said that Microsoft was looking forward to being able to fill the mobile app store ambition with the implementation of DMA. This will give them more control over their app storefronts and make it easier for users to find and download apps from Microsoft’s store.

Xbox is aiming to offer a wide range of content from both its own studios and partner studios, allowing gamers to experience games on whatever screen they want. This move could help Xbox become more popular with gamers who may be hesitant to switch from traditional console gaming due to the limitations of current devices.

As people continue to use mobile devices more and more, it becomes clear that some form of integration between the desktop and mobile platforms is necessary in order to make the most efficient use of people’s time. With this in mind, Facebook is working on a platform that will let users access their profiles, messages and other content from both their desktop and mobile devices. While this technology isn’t available yet, it seems as though Facebook is striving for a future where all devices are open and connected.

Microsoft’s Cloud Gaming app has been met with some controversy as Apple requires users to download each game through its own offering rather than through Microsoft. However, the company is now asking people to sign in through Safari and follow a set of difficult instructions that are not as straightforward as downloading an app from the App Store. This may limit potential customers’ access to some of the games that are available on Microsoft’s service.

Apple’s restrictions around downloads and in-app purchases are one reason Microsoft’s decision to start building its own games store is not unusual. Another reason is that, while Apple has a strong brand, Microsoft has a lot of experience building games and apps.

Microsoft has been making moves to create an alternative app store, hoping to compete with Apple and Google. The company has hired former Apple exec Greg Joswiak as its head of software development, and it is aggressively fundraising in order to build the platform. If successful, Microsoft’s platform could be a major player in the mobile market.

Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard could give the company a stronghold in the mobile market. With titles like ‘Call of Duty Mobile’ and ‘Candy Crush Saga,’ as well as upcoming releases, control over distribution will give Microsoft an edge.

Activision Blizzard is one of the world’s largest video game publishers, with franchises like ‘Call of Duty,’ ‘Black Ops,’ and ‘World of Warcraft.’ Microsoft has been trying to buy the company for many years, but regulators from the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union are scrutinizing this merger. Last month, UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it is launching an antitrust investigation into the deal as it could harm gamers with ‘higher prices, fewer choices.’ Microsoft has tried to appease regulators by pledging to provide a long-term commitment to make popular games like ‘Call of Duty’ available on competitors’ platforms.
