Analyzing the Current State of Apple Vision Pro as the Initial Buzz Subsides: A TechCrunch Minute

Youtube Thumb Text
A few months after its launch, how is Apple’s Vision Pro faring? I am a long-term bull on augmented reality, virtual reality, and face-computers in general. So it is to my partial chagrin that the hype around the Apple Vision Pro has faded more rapidly than I anticipated. But I anticipated the Apple brand to keep the hardware in the news — and atop our collective minds — longer than it managed after its launch. I find it archaic that my monitors are akin to digital chalkboards when they should be built into my glasses.

74 Robotics Companies Seeking New Employees!

Robo Jobs
It’s tough out there — and yet, doing my semi-regular jobs post always gives me hope. Seems every time I post one of these, the number increases. At 74 companies, this is undoubtedly the largest list we’ve made, by a wide margin. That means more work for me in putting this post together, but if it helps a few folks find some work, it was definitely worth it. 1X Technologies (23 roles)Advanced Construction Robotics (4 roles)Aescape (5 roles)Aethon (5 roles)Agility Robotics (5 roles)Allvision (2 roles)Ambi Robotics (2 roles)ANYbotics (25 roles)Apptronik (16 roles)Astrobotic (23 roles)Atomic Machines (2 roles)Aurora (40 careers)Baubot (10 roles)Bear Robotics (13 roles)BHS Robotics (8 roles)Bloomfield Robotics (5 roles)Boxbot (3 roles)Carnegie Robotics (1 role)Cepheid (4 roles)Chef Robotics (15 roles)Civ Robotics (5 roles)Collaborative Robotics (10 roles)Covariant (20 roles)Dexterity (42 roles)Edge Case Research (1 role)Ekumen (3 roles)Enchanted Tools (50 roles)Engineered Arts (1 role)Exotec (174 roles)Eye-Bot (4 roles)Forcen (4 roles)Formant, Inc. Witness the Rise of Memecoins: Solana Leading the Way

Youtube Thumb Text 6
Blockchain is back and Bitcoin is hot, the Ethereum blockchain seeing price gains, lots of folks are stoked about ETFs. But one less-mainstream blockchain is perhaps making the biggest waves in crypto lately: Solana. TechCrunch has reported on Solana’s massive, recent price appreciation, digging into its rapid ascent and the reasons why. The answer is not something new, but instead a return of something that we’ve seen in the past. Not that the Dogwifhat folks are worried — they’re probably too busy having a great time.

“2024 TechCrunch Early Stage: Unveiling the Dynamics of Venture Connections with Lily Lyman from Underscore”

Lilylyman Postheader 1200x628
Enter Underscore VC’s Lily Lyman, who is coming to TechCrunch Early Stage 2024 in Boston to discuss how founders can build investor relationships with the right venture capitalists. She will discuss how to build venture relationships ahead of time, and how founders can — and should! In today’s more stringent venture environment, founders can’t run a 2021-era playbook (unless they are building an AI foundational model company, I suppose). So, bring your notebooks and questions to Lyman’s Early Stage session coming up next month. She’ll be joined by a bevy of other startup folks who will be on hand to share their hard-earned wisdom.

“Diem: Empowering Women and Non-Binary Individuals through Social Search”

Diem Co Founders
A startup called Diem wants to tackle the problem of “search engine gender bias,” where results can produce default male information, making many women feel unsatisfied by the answers they receive to taboo or personal questions online. Diem also recently partnered with verified content providers so users can get information from trusted sources. The first four companies are experts in the reproductive health space, including hormone health startup Aavia, sexual telehealth clinic Hey Jane, vaginal health startup Evvy, and female health brand Stix. In the future, users will be able to nominate community members who already have a Diem account. Six spaces are available, run by community members and inspired by popular posts on the platform.

Explore the Open Beta for Spill: Now Available on iOS and Android

Spillclouds
Spill, a platform founded by ex-Twitter employees, is closing out its first year on the market by opening up its beta to all users, whether they’re on iOS or Android. Spill is like the polar opposite of X, a platform that continues to alienate users with platform policies that make the app actively less inclusive. Around his one-year anniversary of being laid off from Twitter, Spill CEO Alphonzo Terrell told TechCrunch that the app has amassed around 200,000 users. Spill may not be growing as quickly as other Twitter competitors like Bluesky, Mastodon or Threads, but Terrell isn’t worried. “People are looking for something new,” Terrell told TechCrunch last month.

“Preparing for a Greener Future: Developing the Workforce for Clean Energy”

Innovation in clean tech and renewable energy is moving fast — maybe a bit too fast. The clean tech industry is expected to create 8 million jobs by the end of 2030, according to a recent report by the International Energy Agency. These numbers are apparently based on current policies, and if more resources go toward the clean energy transition, the report’s authors expect the number to rise, too. The startup hires and trains folks to install and maintain sustainable heat pumps. It trains people new to the trades, provides upskilling training to those who have some experience, and has its workers install and maintain equipment for other companies.
